Lauren Bolton has become one of Coronation Street’s most popular characters in recent years, courtesy of her rough-around-the-edges history and her role in some of the series’ most sinister storylines. But actress Cait Fitton has now teased that change is in the air, not the sort of change fans might think.
One of the Street‘s Most Intricate Characters to Undergo a Change in the Air
During a recent Instagram Q&A session, Cait stopped to talk to fans, offering insights and behind-the-scenes peeks at life on the Corrie set. A question from one fan regarding what‘s next for Lauren and her baby son Frankie elicited a response that generated speculation.
Cait teased a new storyline by sharing a happy picture of herself as Lauren is on location at Roy’s Rolls, smiling down at baby Frankie in his pram. She said Lauren and Frankie have “a lot going on” and promised that fans will soon see a new Lauren emerge. As Cait noted, supporters should prepare to see “a different side to Lauren,” especially as the character transitions into motherhood and discovers new relationships. She implored viewers to “stay tuned” for what lies ahead.
Coronation Street: Lauren’s Journey So Far Has Been Anything But Easy
Lauren has had a traumatic journey since appearing on the cobbles in 2022. She was brought into the show as part of an unsettling storyline involving her dad, Reece Bolton’s hard-right extremist organization. The gang had recruited and groomed Max Turner, who played the part of Paddy Bever, into extremism.
Lauren tried to start anew when the ring was finally exposed and disbanded. She got a job at Roy’s café and sought to put the past behind her. But that was not the end of it.
She went missing under violent conditions and was presumed dead, which resulted in a miscarriage of justice for murder. Roy Cropper and Nathan Curtis were both arrested at various times for her alleged murder. Only afterward did it become known that solicitor Joel Deering had been the actual attacker.
Joel had groomed Lauren for many months, eventually assaulting her in a vicious attack that left her to die. After she returned to Weatherfield, it emerged that she was pregnant. Joel attempted to force an early labour with a disgusting drug-fiddling operation. It was a move that risked Lauren’s life as well as the life of her unborn baby.
Miraculously, her infant son Frankie survived despite being born prematurely. His premature birth, however, had its own set of problems, including severe health issues that necessitated a stem cell transplant.
Lauren’s tale went to a suspenseful climax as she took charge of the situation. In an angry fight, Joel tried to strangle Max to death, and Lauren interfered, fatally. The terrifying situation resulted in a trial, although Lauren was declared not guilty.
What’s Next for Lauren?
Now that Cait Fitton is hinting at a new direction for Lauren. It’s obvious that the character could be in for a period of healing, development, and even love. Her journey from victim to survivor has resonated with viewers, and it appears Coronation Street is ready to delve into what Lauren is like afterward.
With motherhood playing a central role and the potential for new connections in her life, fans will no doubt be watching closely to see just who Lauren might grow closer to. Seeing how she navigates this next chapter after so much trauma will be interesting. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily and we will keep you posted on this!
