Emrhys Cooper arrived on Coronation Street earlier this year as Rowan Cunliffe. From the very beginning, his impeccable acting skills won over the Corrie fandom, despite the character being a wicked villain. Oh! but the charm of this bad boy has us swooning too! Unfortunately, Rowan’s reign of terror is on the verge of ending.
However, the latest spoilers tease that the villain won’t give up without a big bang on Coronation Street. When Rowan Cunliffe first arrived in Weatherfield, he introduced himself as the leader of a self-help group (read: cult) – The Institute. Using his charms and good looks, he had Leanne Battersby eating out of his palm in a matter of few heartbeats.
However, things took a sharp turn when Leanne stumbled upon some shocking files on Rowan’s laptop. She realized that he was blackmailing Nick and Toyah. Who by the way, are having an affair behind her back. She now sees the villain for who he truly is, and has resolved to take him down for good.
Speaking to the media at the Inside Soap Awards, Emrhys Cooper admitted that was initially nervous about portraying the character and the complex storyline that revolved around it. However, the cast was so accommodating and helpful that he felt instantly at ease. “Made me feel so welcomed and it was like a family,” the actor gushed.

The Corrie actor also admitted that the storyline’s subject is close to a personal experience for him. “It actually brought me closer to my dad because I got to speak about his experiences with cults and in very eye-opening and quite healing in a way,” he pointed. Furthermore, he admitted that he previously held a lot of resentment toward his dad, but this storyline changed it all.
