Finding lasting love doesn’t come easily for everyone, and for some, the journey includes more false starts than fairytale moments. For Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger, romance once felt like a repeating cycle of disappointment. Yet after years of relationships that left her disillusioned, her life took an unexpected turn that rewrote everything she thought she knew about love.

How Years Of Romantic Letdowns Led to Jodie’s Search For Love

Before she found happiness, Jodie Prenger openly admitted that her romantic history was far from ideal. She once described herself as someone who repeatedly attracted the wrong men, joking that she seemed drawn to “prats and Peter Pans” who caused more heartache than happiness.

Despite being a true romantic at heart, those experiences slowly chipped away at her belief that real love would find her. Jodie has said that after so many failed relationships, even her optimism began to fade.

At one point, she questioned whether she was somehow responsible for the pattern, wondering aloud to her mother if she was the reason her relationships kept falling apart. Although she still believed in love, she was close to giving up hope of finding someone who truly understood her.

That emotional backdrop makes what happened next all the more meaningful. Instead of finding love through dramatic gestures or whirlwind romances, Jodie’s story took a far quieter and ultimately more powerful path.

Why Falling For Simon Felt Completely Different

Jodie’s relationship with businessman Simon Booth didn’t begin with sparks flying. The two had been friends for years before they started dating in 2010, and that foundation changed everything. When their friendship turned romantic, Jodie realised she had finally met someone who felt right in a way no one else had before. She later explained that being with Simon felt effortless. He wasn’t chaotic or unpredictable like her past partners.

Instead, she described him as sensitive, kind, and emotionally grounded, saying it hit her “like a ton of bricks” when she realised he ticked all the boxes she had been searching for all along. Their relationship grew steadily, and in 2012, Simon proposed. While Jodie initially believed he might pop the question during a glamorous Buckingham Palace event she attended for Charles Dickens’ bicentenary, the moment passed without incident.

The real proposal came later, on St Patrick’s Day, at an Irish oyster bar, when she least expected it. What Jodie didn’t know at the time was that Simon had originally planned an even bigger proposal in Ireland, complete with a choir. Those plans fell through when she had to fly to Australia to film the I’m A Celebrity spin-off, forcing him to cancel everything. Jodie and Simon now live on a farm surrounded by animals, including cattle and hens. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
