A Coronation Street star and not just any star, but one fans will definitely remember is heading to Hollyoaks, and he’s being lined up as Mercedes McQueen’s new love interest. Mercedes is slowly rebuilding her life after a tough period. And, this new arrival could be the start of fresh complications.
Ryan Clayton Arrives In Hollyoaks As Mercedes’ New Man
Hollyoaks has officially signed up Ryan Clayton on Coronation Street to play a brand-new character called Jenson. And yes, he’s being introduced as a romantic interest for Mercedes McQueen. Jenson first crosses paths with Mercedes at a rehabilitation facility, right after her recent battle with prescription drug addiction.

The New Year trailer, released on January 5, makes it pretty clear there’s an attraction between them. Nothing is rushed, but the chemistry is there, hinting that Jenson could become an important part of Mercedes’ next chapter. If Ryan Clayton looks familiar, it’s because soap fans last saw him playing Josh Tucker on Coronation Street.
Why Coronation Street Fans Will Definitely Remember Him
Josh worked as a mechanic at Webster’s Autocentre before befriending David Platt and later raping him, in one of Corrie’s most upsetting storylines. That storyline reached court in January 2020 when Josh stood trial at Weatherfield Crown Court. David, played by Jack P Shepherd, testified against him, and the verdict followed soon after. Josh was found guilty of raping both David and another man and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with Imran Habeeb delivering the news.

Ryan has also appeared in Waterloo Road as Sergeant Mike Rutherford, but stepping into Hollyoaks as a potential romantic lead is a very different direction for him, and that contrast alone makes Jenson’s arrival interesting.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Hollyoaks if things stayed simple for long. The trailer also shows Jenson confronting Timothy “Tinhead” O’Leary over his use of Warren Fox’s identity. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
