It’s not unusual for popular soap icons to make a second home on a competitor’s show, and this week, it’s one of Coronation Street favorites moving into a new universe. Fans will need to keep their eyes glued to Casualty over the weekend as a new player introduces emotional baggage and family angst to Holby’s already bustling corridors. Let’s take a closer look at Martin Hancock’s new look—and what it might have in store for the characters he’s about to meet.
From Spider to Samuel: Martin Hancock Joins Casualty
Coronation Street star Martin Hancock, whose screen role to date has seen him portray eco-warrior Spider Nugent on the ITV show, is embracing a new role. Martin stars as Samuel Jankowski in the recent episode of Casualty. Samuel is Indie, the student paramedic, played by Naomi Wakszlak.
The episode of March 29 includes a dramatic prison callout in which Indie has to treat a stab victim. That’s when she unexpectedly finds herself face to face with Samuel. Eventually, their emotional bond starts to develop on the way to the hospital. Although the duration of Hancock’s stay on the BBC soap is not confirmed, his arrival is set to shake things up.
Coronation Street: No Farewell to Spider Just Yet?
Indie only arrived on Casualty earlier this year, her own backstory already delving deep into emotional scars after losing her grandmother. That bereavement left the young paramedic homeless, and with Samuel’s surprise return, it now looks like she is facing her past.
Although Hancock has gone on to a new job, he has not ruled out coming back to the cobbles. Considering Spider’s complicated history with Toyah Battersby, the actor stated that he felt their saga was not yet over. In his opinion, the characters still have love despite how things ended.
He expressed that Spider would probably feel heartbroken over the split, as Toyah has been a part of his story. “There’s something between those two,” he considered, commenting that the relationship is 25 years long. He went on to say that he’s always been willing to come back. In fact, he even suggested that a Spider and Toyah wedding would occur in the future. What happens next is yet to be seen in the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily, and we will keep you posted!
