Lucy Fallon Reveals Five-Week Stay At The Priory After Hitting Rock Bottom

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon currently plays Bethany Platt on the ITV soap. However, back in 2020 during the first Coronavirus lockdown, she faced a very different reality away from the cobbles.

As restrictions tightened and uncertainty grew, Lucy’s mental health deteriorated sharply toward the end of that year. Speaking candidly about that period, Lucy revealed she was admitted to The Priory, a hospital that specialises in mental health treatment. She did not hold back as she described how low she had fallen.

“I was just at the absolute rock bottom that I’ve ever, ever felt. And I really, really, really struggled,” she said. Fallon explained that she experienced a really bad period with her mental health toward the end of 2020 and ended up being in The Priory for about five weeks because it became so severe.

She admitted she could not see a way out of feeling how she was feeling. She made it clear that at the time she simply could not picture a future beyond the darkness she was experiencing.

Family Stepped In As Lucy Struggled To Accept Help

During her appearance on Johnny Seifert’s Secure the Insecure podcast, Lucy explained that her family played a crucial role in getting her the support she needed.

She said that once she ended up in hospital, other people became involved, including her mum, her sisters and people she had worked with before. Lucy said it almost felt like other factors were telling her firmly that she needed serious help because things had gone too far. She admitted she really did not want to go.

She even remembered arriving at the hospital and still feeling resistant, saying she “really, really did not want to go in.” When she first arrived at the centre, she questioned whether she was unwell enough to be there. It felt alien and strange to her. She recalled thinking that she did not know why she was there, as though she was not “bad enough” to require that level of care. However, after a few weeks, her perspective changed.

She said she got to grips with it, and after about a week, she actually liked being there. She felt quite safe and met a lot of people, some of whom she still keeps in contact with now. Lucy admitted that adjusting after leaving the hospital took time, but now, Lucy said that time feels like a completely different life. Besides, she reflected that it was a totally different version of herself. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
