Peter Ash revealed that he was so moved when his co-stars surprised him after he left the soap. The death scenes on September 9, 2024, marked the end of Paul Foreman’s fight with motor neurone disease. Lately, the character has been using a ventilator because he’s having trouble breathing.
Meanwhile, as the Corrie actor was saying his goodbyes, he received a sweet surprise from his co-star and on-screen partner Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Billy’s adopted daughter Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). Peter described the experience as “a whirlwind of emotions, and I’ve met the most wonderful people.”
Daniel and Harriet surprised him with a balloon and card, prompting Pete to jokingly exclaim, “You f****s, and I just swore, so you can’t use any of this.” Reflecting on the final episode, the ITV star shared that the buildup to this moment had been ongoing for 18 months.
He expressed that finalising the storyline felt like a distant future when it was first pitched. Additionally, the actors found the scenes terrifying, but they filmed most of the scenes in chronological order. Peter’s final scene is the scene where Billy arrives and holds onto Paul, who has already passed away.
Regarding the family’s future after the death, Billy and Bernie have very different approaches to both life and death. Both characters are mourning someone they deeply care about, but each believes their grief is more significant—one as a mother and the other as a husband.
