Some faces in Weatherfield never really go away—they just wait patiently until Coronation Street calls them back again. This time, the return comes with a twist. One former actor is back on familiar ground, but not as the man he once was. After a quarter of a century, he’s returning to play a whole new role—and this time his return could cause a storm for one of the Rovers’ most popular landladies.
Dominic Rickhards Returns to Coronation Street as a New Character
Dominic Rickhards—whom long-time viewers might recall from the late ’90s—has once again been cast in Coronation Street, albeit not as the character for whom he first appeared. From 1998 until 2000, he played Michael Wall, an occupational therapist who became part of Jim McDonald’s world when a fall left him wheelchair-bound.
The relationship between Jim and Michael takes a bitter turn when Michael starts an affair with Jim’s wife, Liz. That infidelity was a prime subject of Rickhards’ stay on the soap, with the characters ultimately becoming engaged and relocating to Milton Keynes for Michael’s new career. The romance did not survive, though. Liz went back to Weatherfield after Jim was charged with the manslaughter of Jez Quigley, finally ending her affair with Michael once and for all.
Flash forward 25 years, and Rickard is back, but not as Michael. He’ll be appearing instead in the role of “Dom,” a man at the center of an orchestrated sting.
Jenny’s loss, Daisy’s vengeance, and an outsider with a plan
The latest plotline finds Jenny Connor continuing to struggle with deep emotional scars after an emotionally charged confrontation with stepdaughter Daisy. Following the near-drowning of Bertie Osbourne in her care, Jenny ranted, suggesting that Daisy was repeating history, tracing a direct line to the horrific drowning of her own son, Tom, years earlier. The repercussions were explosive.
That family fracture brought Christina Boyd—Daisy’s estranged mother—back into the picture, but she hasn’t come back to play nice.
Christina and Daisy hatched a plan to get revenge on Jenny. It began with a bogus dating profile using the name “Dom,” which was used to trap Jenny into an economic scheme. Christina even went so far as to have flowers delivered in an attempt to make it appear as if Jenny had a secret suitor.
Then, the plan strikes its second phase. “Dom” appears at the Rovers, charming Jenny and showing plans to sell his company. He invites her to invest, saying it can double her money. The timing is the worst possible—Jenny has long wanted to purchase the pub from Carla Connor. Now, this comes as close to answering her prayers as can be.
But the man called Dom is no real investor. He’s in on the scam—an actor Christina has employed to finish their setup. And who is that actor? None other than Dominic Rickhards. This development signals the start of Charlotte Jordan’s exit storyline, ending Daisy’s stint on the Street after five years. How the rest of the plot unfolds is yet to be seen.
