Fugitive-turned-asylum-patient Rob Donovan in Coronation Street is short on time both as a fugitive and as a critically injured man. In the recent ITVX episode, the convicted murderer, having just returned to Weatherfield, finds himself in a more and more precarious position.
Coronation Street: Rob’s Perilous Game Grows Even More Dangerous
After turning up at Tracy Barlow’s door and pleading to escape the country, Rob persuaded his former partner to let him spend the night. But what was a temporary measure soon got out of hand. Tracy, suspicious of his intentions, agreed to provide him with a counterfeit passport, but Rob’s demands escalated.
Things reached a boiling point when he pulled a gun on Tracy-not to hurt her, he claimed, but in order to take charge of the situation. As the evening drew on, the ex-couple dwelled on what might have been, prompting Rob to reveal a shocking secret: he still loved her. He even begged Tracy to run away with him.
A Deadly Choice: Freedom vs. Survival
Tracy, though, refused to budge. She wasn’t going to let him escape and instead reserved him a single ticket on a ferry that was departing the following day. But just as Rob’s getaway was within his grasp, his past came back to haunt him in a cruel manner.
Rob’s determination to leave Weatherfield hit a major snag when his surgical wound-a result of donating a kidney to his sister, Carla Connor-became severely infected. The extent of the harm was evident as he began to bleed profusely, leaving Tracy shocked.
In spite of the clear danger, Rob straight-out denied receiving medical attention. He informed Tracy he would rather die than go back to jail, cornering her into an impossible situation. When she attempted to call for an ambulance, he threatened her with the gun again-this time an authentic threat. If she called, he threatened he would kill her.
Forced to comply, Tracy surrendered her phone, yet she did not abandon him for good. Down the street, back near the crime scene, Carla partied with friends Betsy and Lisa Swain-completely unaware that her brother was still lurking nearby—and planning to see her one last time.
As his situation goes from bad to worse and his level of desperation peaks, it looks as if Rob is heading towards tragedy. Will he escape Weatherfield in one piece, or has the street come to a very permanent end for him? Only the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers can reveal.
