Steve McDonald has shocked the cobbles with his secret fling, but Simon Gregson’s real life has taken a much warmer turn. Away from Weatherfield, the actor has shared a personal message that caught fans’ attention and left co-stars touched.
Steve’s On-Screen Chaos
Simon Gregson has played Steve McDonald since 1989. Over the years, Steve has made viewers laugh with his quick one-liners and string of failed romances. Lately, Steve has been in the spotlight again after confessing that he was secretly seeing Cassie Plummer, played by Claire Sweeney.

The surprise romance has caused plenty of chatter in Weatherfield and left fans wondering what trouble might come next. But while Steve lurches from one relationship problem to another, Simon’s personal life looks very different. He has been happily married to Emma Gleave since 2010, and together they share three sons: Alfie, Henry, and Teddy. The family live in Cheshire, far removed from Steve’s dramas.
Coronation Street: Simon’s Sweet Birthday Post
Off-screen, Simon recently took to Instagram to celebrate Emma’s birthday. He posted a smiling selfie of the two of them and wrote that she was the most beautiful girl ever, adding that there were no comebacks on that statement, before signing it off with a red heart emoji.

The loving post drew a flood of replies. Sally Carman, who plays Abi Webster, agreed that Emma was a beauty. Kym Marsh, who played Michelle Connor, also sent her birthday wishes. One fan joked that Cassie Plummer would be fuming after reading Simon’s words.
Emma Moves On From Tearooms
Emma has also been busy with her own ventures. In 2022, she opened Morley Tearooms near Wilmslow, which became a huge hit with customers. The café won two Good Food Awards and was praised for its cakes, with Simon often popping in to support her. Earlier this year, though, Emma announced she was stepping away from the business after two and a half years.

Emma explained in a Facebook post that the new lease no longer worked for her, even though she had planned to stay until the end of summer. She thanked customers for all the love and support, saying it had been humbling and heartwarming. Emma also promised this was not the end, teasing a new venture just down the road that would be bigger and better. She said she hoped people would join her in this next chapter and promised more updates soon.
While Steve’s world stays messy on the cobbles, Simon and Emma continue to share milestones built on love and support. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street news and updates.
