Gary Windass has always had a bit of a soft spot for the underdog in Coronation Street, but his support for Lou Michaelis is starting to stir up more trouble than he bargained for. With Maria already on edge and trust wearing thin, the tension between this tangled trio is building fast, and what happens next could push everything over the edge.
Lou Leans on Gary But Maria’s Not Buying It
Ever since her husband Mick killed Craig Tinker, Lou Michaelis has found herself pushed to the sidelines in Weatherfield. Most of the neighbours have kept their distance but not Gary Windass. In fact, Gary has gone out of his way to support her, convinced that she’s just another victim in the mess her husband left behind.
That support became more than words when Gary agreed to help Lou sell Mick’s van. While he saw it as a kind gesture, it opened the door for something more complicated. Not long after, Lou paid a visit to Mick in prison and told him that Gary had been a “life saver.” More worryingly, she added that she’d do “whatever it took to survive.”
Naturally, Maria was already on edge. She’s never trusted Lou, and her suspicions only grew after an explosive moment at Craig’s memorial. When Maria bluntly told Lou she wasn’t welcome, Lou calmly threw in the fact that Gary had bought Mick’s van. That left Maria fuming, and not just because of the news, but because of how it was delivered.
Things got worse from there. At the Platts’ barbecue, Lou fell through a glass coffee table and accused Maria of deliberately pushing her. Maria insisted she was trying to stop Lou from stealing the salon takings from Shona’s bag, and that Lou tripped during the scuffle. But when Shona confirmed that the money hadn’t been touched, Maria’s story quickly started to fall apart.
Gary Takes Lou’s Side in Coronation Street
In the aftermath of the fall, Gary didn’t hold back. He told Maria she should apologise to Lou, which only deepened the divide between them. Meanwhile, Lou told Gary she wouldn’t press charges because he’d been so kind to her.
What was meant to sound like gratitude instead pushed Maria over the edge. She lashed out at Gary, accusing him of fancying Lou.
Now, in upcoming scenes, Maria returns home after being released from custody. Though the investigation is still ongoing, she wastes no time confronting Lou. Furious, she accuses her of going to the police.
However, Lou stands firm and insists she didn’t report anything, claiming she kept her word to Gary. Later on, just when Maria and Gary still haven’t patched things up, Lou pays Gary a quiet visit while he’s on his own. She tells him she doesn’t want any more drama between them or his family. Gary, perhaps trying to keep things calm, thanks her for saying that and offers her a beer.
Is Gary Letting Things Go Too Far?
At first glance, it might seem like Gary’s just trying to do the right thing. But with each small gesture, he’s giving Lou more space in his life, and Maria knows it. While Gary tries to keep the peace, Lou continues to show up at just the right moments, saying all the right things.
Maria’s warnings haven’t come from nowhere. She’s watched Lou’s every move and seen how she’s slowly wormed her way into Gary’s trust. If Gary doesn’t put up some boundaries soon, he might find himself in a situation he can’t fix.
So the question is, does Lou genuinely want peace? Or is this part of a much bigger game? Either way, Gary could be on the verge of losing far more than he bargained for.
