Regular viewers of Coronation Street already know that things have been tense between Gary and Maria for a while now, and their latest argument seemed to push him over the edge. He walked out, said he was going to his mum’s, and just didn’t come back. At first, it looked like he just needed space but it turns out there’s a lot more going on.
A Family Argument Turns Into a Real Worry
As usual, Gary and Maria had a proper row, not all that surprising considering how much pressure they’ve been under lately. Lou Michaelis has definitely been making things worse between them. After the argument, Gary told Maria he was off to stay with his mum for a bit.
But days passed. Nothing. No calls, no messages. Then came Liam’s birthday and Gary didn’t show. That’s when alarm bells really started ringing for Maria. Whatever differences they were having, Gary wouldn’t miss something like that. Meanwhile, viewers saw what Maria didn’t. Gary lying unconscious in a hospital bed after being attacked. He was barely clinging on. The worst part? No one even knew where he was.
Someone’s Hiding Something in Coronation Street
Eventually, Maria goes to the police and reports Gary missing. That’s when Kit Green, the officer handling things, tells her there’s an unidentified man in hospital, currently in a coma. Maria’s ears prick up and she can’t help but think whether that could be Gary. But Kit reassures her that it isn’t him. Except, it is.
Here’s where it gets really concerning. Someone has gone out of their way to cover up Gary’s identity. They’ve actually changed his name on hospital records and even claimed to be his next of kin. It seems very clearly planned and whoever did this didn’t want Gary to be found. All this time, Maria’s thinking Gary’s taken off to clear his head, and in reality, he’s fighting for his life. And someone’s making sure no one finds out.
Maria’s Gut Feeling Was Right All Along
Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria, said Maria was hurt when Gary left, but she didn’t overthink it at first. It was the missed birthday that changed everything and Maria just knew deep down that something was seriously wrong.
From that point, her mind started racing. She knew Gary had his fair share of enemies, especially given his history. Samia explained that Maria never really paused to consider who might’ve attacked him just that something awful must’ve happened.
And now that Gary is still in a critical condition and the cover-up slowly starting to come out, it looks like there are still some big questions that need answering. Who attacked Gary? And why go through all this trouble to hide it? Whatever’s going on, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest on Coronation Street.
