Mick Michaelis’ final scenes on Coronation Street left viewers stunned as he turned himself in and walked away from son Brody for good. Now, actor Joe Layton has officially confirmed his exit from the show, and co-star Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit Green, has shared a heartfelt response.
A History That Couldn’t Stay Buried
DC Kit Green first arrived in Weatherfield during Bernie Winter’s emotional search for her long-lost son. Not long after, Mick and Lou Michaelis moved in across the ginnel from Gemma and Chesney, bringing their own baggage to the street. It soon came out that Mick and Kit had known each other as kids, and had unfinished business.

In flashback scenes, viewers saw that Mick ended up in prison for Kit. While he was serving time, Kit and Lou had a fling, which resulted in the birth of Brody, who until recently thought Mick was his father. The truth finally pushed Mick to breaking point. After a tense exchange with Kit, he lashed out and killed PC Craig Tinker during a drunken rage.
Coronation Street: Mick’s Final Move
Just weeks ago, Mick staged a dramatic prison break. With Lou under fire for attacking Gary Windass, and their children stuck in the middle, he made one last desperate attempt to reunite the family and flee Weatherfield for good.

The chase ended on the Underworld roof, where he came face-to-face with Sally Metcalfe. She managed to get away with Joanie, and Mick, realising it was over, surrendered to police. Later, he emotionally cut ties with Brody, leaving the teen heartbroken, and ending Mick’s time on the cobbles.
Joe’s Goodbye and Jacob’s Reply
Joe confirmed his exit on Instagram with a message to fans and the Corrie team. He shared a short video montage of his six-month run and wrote that the Coronation Street cast and crew made him feel welcome from day one. He thanked producer Kate Brooks for trusting him with the role and gave shoutouts to Farrel Hegarty, Jacob Roberts, Jane Hazlegrove, and Colson Smith.

Calling it “a privilege to walk the cobbles,” he joked that doing it in Mick’s “dodgy steel-toe-cap trainers” was the icing on the cake. He also thanked fans for their support, saying it had been “overwhelming and so appreciated.” Jacob Roberts responded in the comments, saying, “I’ll miss you bro ❤️.” Joe replied, “miss you too mate! Keep smashing it!”
Now that Brody is devastated and the truth about his real father is now public, Kit could be forced to face what comes next, and it won’t be easy. Stay with Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street updates, cast news, and story developments.
