Abi Webster is struggling to keep her affair with Carl hidden in Coronation Street, but with Kevin away, the cracks are starting to show. When Tracy Barlow gets wind of what’s been going on, she quickly finds a way to turn Abi’s secret into her own advantage.
Abi’s Secret Affair in Coronation Street
Abi’s troubles began when Kevin lied to her about his health. She had stood faithfully by his side during his testicular cancer diagnosis, but later discovered he had been given the all-clear. Instead of sharing the good news, Kevin pretended he needed further treatment because he was terrified of losing her. When Abi learned the truth, she declared their marriage over. As a result, she turned straight to Carl Webster for comfort.
However, for the sake of the children, she later agreed to stay with Kevin, even though her secret relationship with Carl continued. To keep suspicions away, she went back to sharing a bed with Kevin, and that left Carl fuming. Out of spite, he tried his luck by flirting with Tracy, but quickly found himself in hot water than expected. Meanwhile, Kevin jetted off on holiday, leaving Abi behind after she claimed she had issues with her passport. This excuse gave her the freedom to spend more time with Carl.
Tracy Learns the Truth
Eventually, Abi decided to open up to Tracy. She admitted she never set out to hurt Kevin but couldn’t deny her feelings for Carl. She insisted they were in love and revealed her idea of leaving Weatherfield altogether, hoping a fresh start in Germany would give them a chance. However, Tracy wasn’t convinced. Drawing on her own experience, she reminded Abi that she had once left Steve McDonald for Tommy Orpington, believing their love would thrive abroad.
Instead, it had ended in failure. In her usual tone, Tracy branded Abi and Carl a “train wreck” waiting to happen. Then, twisting the knife further, she demanded money in exchange for her silence. Abi was horrified because she had no money to give. Later, she confided in Carl, who responded with a reckless plan. He suggested they could raise the cash by stealing cars. Worse still, he decided not to do it alone.
