Steve Devastated As Jim’s Death Derails Cassie’s Proposal
Next week on Coronation Street, Steve McDonald is left reeling when he learns that his father Jim has died. The bereavement bombshell sends him into a spin, and the timing could not be worse because Cassie had been moments away from asking him to marry her.
As Steve struggles to process the loss, he has no idea that Cassie had carefully orchestrated a surprise proposal. A Corrie source explains, “Finding out a member of your immediate family has died is obviously the kind of news nobody wants to hear.”
The insider also says that Cassie cannot believe she was about to carry out her grand gesture just as Steve received the call confirming the worst. The same source shares that once the moment passed, Cassie immediately worried about how it would look if she proposed while Steve was grieving.
She fears it would come across as insensitive and now wonders if she has missed her chance completely. Earlier in the week, unaware of what was about to happen, Cassie felt excited and determined. She ropes Tim Metcalfe into helping her lure Steve to Victoria Gardens without giving the game away.
A Phone Call Changes Everything At Victoria Gardens
All glammed up and visibly nervous, Cassie clears her throat and prepares to deliver her romantic speech. Just as she gathers the courage to get down on one knee, Steve’s phone rings. Knowing that his dad Jim is seriously ill in hospital, Steve has been waiting for an update.
So, he immediately stops Cassie mid sentence to take the call. Tragically, the call confirms that Jim has gone. Although Steve partly expected the news, it still leaves him stunned and shellshocked.

Even though Steve partly expected it, he’s still shellshocked.” Tim catches Cassie’s eye, and in that instant the proposal is forgotten. Cassie pulls Steve into a supportive cuddle and quickly takes him to the Rovers so he can be surrounded by friends. As the locals raise a toast to Jim’s memory, Cassie quietly waits for Steve to look away. She grabs the engagement ring and sneakily passes it to Mary Taylor.
However, Tracy Barlow notices the sly exchange. Her sharp instincts tell her that something is going on, so she collars Mary and demands to know what they are hiding.
