Betsy Swain’s 18th birthday takes a dark turn next week on Coronation Street, when a stolen car tears through the area and chaos breaks out. As one resident left seriously injured, the police launch a major investigation, only to find themselves facing a chilling setback.

A Night That Starts With Trouble

Betsy Swain’s 18th birthday doesn’t go to plan. After a falling out and one too many drinks, she heads out alone and stops to record voice notes for her mum Lisa and her new love interest Dylan Wilson. Just as she’s about to leave, a loud crash behind her makes her jump. A stolen car comes flying through the area, nearly hitting her. The moment shakes Betsy, especially since it happens in the exact spot where she lost Mason.

According to actress Sydney Martin, Betsy is upset and drunk when it happens, and the crash takes her completely by surprise. Around the same time, George Shuttleworth has his own scary encounter with another stolen car, this one driven by Dylan and Brody Michaelis. The two teens had taken it on orders from dodgy Carl Webster, and they don’t seem to grasp just how serious things could get.

The same car that nearly missed Betsy doesn’t stop there. It goes on to hit a resident and speeds off without even slowing down. The victim ends up in critical condition, rushed to the hospital as police scramble to figure out what happened. Kit Green is called in to help with the investigation.

It’s a big step for him, especially after being stuck on desk duty following a drama with DI Costello and DS Lisa Swain. He heads to the hospital to speak with the victim’s family, but when they ask whether the car has been found, he gives them some bad news. Kit explains that the vehicle was located but it had been completely torched. There’s nothing left to examine, and no way to tell for sure who was behind the wheel.

The incident leaves the whole street on edge. Was it the same stolen car that Dylan and Brody were seen with? Did someone else take it for another joyride? And who was the intended target, if there even was one? Now that the car is destroyed and no clear answers, the case stalls. The police are left with very little to go on. And the family is left waiting to see if their loved one pulls through. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street spoilers and updates.
