SOAPS COPYING? Coronation Street Viewers Call Megan and Will’s Plot “Copy and Paste” of Emmerdale’s THIS Plot

Coronation Street viewers are reacting to Megan and Will’s storyline because it feels familiar what Emmerdale fans have already seen. As the plot heats up, more fans are asking the same question: are soaps just recycling old storylines with new character names? And the comparison they keep coming back to is Emmerdale’s controversial Maya and Jacob storyline, which many believe Corrie is now echoing almost beat-for-beat.

Coronation Street Fans Spot A “Copy and Paste” Storyline

On Reddit, viewers pointed out that the Megan and Will plot feels like it’s been lifted straight from Emmerdale’s past. One fan even called it “pretty much copy and paste” of Maya and Jacob, just “slightly tweaked,” which says a lot about how obvious the parallels feel to long-time soap watchers.

Another commenter argued that Emmerdale’s version was actually worse. It is because Maya wasn’t only involved with Jacob; she was also his dad’s girlfriend, which added an extra layer of manipulation.

Still, even if Corrie hasn’t followed that exact detail, fans think the overall framework is the same: a creepy, inappropriate dynamic that’s hard to watch. At the same time, not everyone agrees Corrie is pulling it off as well.

One viewer admitted the Maya/Jacob storyline was done “10x better,” while another pushed back, saying Emmerdale leaned too heavily into uncomfortable scenes and even promoted it in a way that felt “icky,” which made things worse.

Viewers Think Soaps Recycle Plots A Lot

This conversation didn’t stop at Corrie and Emmerdale either. Some fans pointed out that soaps have been reusing storylines for decades, and this is just another example. One person said soaps have a “never ending list” of plots that keep getting recycled across different shows.

Another viewer even compared it to EastEnders, saying Mick Carter had a similar storyline a few years ago, involving abuse from a teacher at a young age and a child being fathered from it.

Someone else reminded fans that something along these lines also happened to Tim. It’s a soap tradition at this point. That’s what’s really driving the debate. Fans aren’t only disturbed by the storyline itself. They’re frustrated by the feeling that soaps keep going back to the same shocking templates to create drama. The debate isn’t really about whether Megan will get caught or what happens next. It’s about whether soaps are copying each other. Some fans feel it’s lazy, while others see it as part of the genre.

After all, soaps thrive on repeated themes: scandal, betrayal, secrets, and consequences. But the reason this one is hitting harder is because so many viewers remember Maya and Jacob so clearly. Whether Corrie is intentionally copying Emmerdale or simply falling into the same soap patterns, fans have clearly noticed. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
