Carla Connor and Lisa Swain are about to face a life-changing surprise in Coronation Street. This week, they open their front door and discover a baby left in a car seat on the doorstep. Within seconds, they realise this child connects directly to Rob Donovan. Baby Connie’s sudden arrival drags painful history back into Carla’s present and forces her to confront a situation she never expected.

Rob’s Daughter Is Left On Carla’s Doorstep

Carla Connor and Lisa Swain are left stunned when they see a baby abandoned outside their home. Lisa immediately spots a woman hurrying away and runs after her. She quickly learns the baby is called Connie and that she is the daughter of Rob Donovan and prison guard Mandy Waring.

Lisa returns and explains everything to Carla. Connie had been staying at her grandmother’s house, but the grandmother has been admitted to hospital and can no longer care for her. The grandmother asked Carla and Lisa to look after Carla’s niece until she recovers.

CS/ Carla is shocked

Carla reacts in horror and refuses outright. She tells Lisa she will not take responsibility for Rob’s child. The thought of raising her brother’s daughter is too much for her to accept. Lisa reminds her that the baby is innocent and has nowhere else to go.

Carla now faces a painful decision that could change everything. Newer viewers may feel that Connie’s arrival has come out of nowhere. However, Coronation Street planted the seeds for this storyline a year ago. A look back at Rob’s past explains exactly how Connie became part of Weatherfield’s story.

Connie’s Parents And Rob’s Dark History

Connie is the daughter of Carla’s brother Rob Donovan and his former prison guard lover Mandy Waring. Rob appeared on the cobbles between 2012 and 2014 as Carla’s estranged half brother. He had previously served time in Strangeways for driving the getaway car in an armed robbery.

Rob and Carla did not reconnect easily. He felt abandoned when she married Paul Connor and left him and their mother Sharon behind. Despite the tension, they rebuilt their relationship and Rob became protective of his sister.

During that period, Rob began a relationship with Tracy Barlow and planned to marry her. Police arrested him on the day of their wedding after Carla reported him in order to free her former husband Peter Barlow, who had been wrongly imprisoned. Rob was serving a long sentence for the murder of Tina McIntyre in 2014. Tina worked at the Rovers and also babysat for Simon Barlow, which brought her closer to Peter. On Peter’s wedding day to Carla in 2013, he shared a secret kiss with Tina. They continued an affair for months.

Peter even agreed to leave Carla and start a new life with Tina. After learning that Carla was pregnant, he changed his mind and broke Tina’s heart. Tina threatened to expose the affair, but Peter confessed first. Carla was devastated and furious. That same night, someone attacked Tina and she later died from her injuries. Suspicion initially fell on Carla. But Peter eventually went to prison. Months later, on the eve of his wedding to Tracy, Rob confessed to Carla that he had killed Tina.

Coronation Street: Carla Connor

Carla struggled between loyalty to her brother and her conscience. She ultimately chose to report him. Rob felt betrayed and later sought revenge by revealing that Johnny Connor was Carla’s biological father.

His time in prison led to an affair with Mandy Waring, which resulted in Connie’s birth. Carla now stands at a crossroads and must decide whether she can separate the child from the crimes of her father. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
