FINAL REGRET? Steve Leaves Phone Behind As Dying Jim Tries To Call in Coronation Street

By Roy

Steve McDonald faces one of the most devastating moments of his life in Coronation Street, and this time the pain comes just as another betrayal by his father resurfaces. For years, Steve has carried anger, resentment and unresolved hurt because of Jim McDonald’s actions. Now, just as he thinks that chapter of his life has finally closed, shocking news pulls him back in and forces him to confront feelings he has tried to bury.

Jim’s Sudden Death Leaves Steve Reeling

For decades, viewers have watched Jim McDonald leave a trail of chaos behind him. A troubled and complicated husband and father, he brought toxic masculinity, alcoholism and violence into his family home, all delivered under that unmistakable moustache and Irish accent.

Ever since his arrival in October 1989, his fiery dynamic alongside Liz McDonald and sons Steve and Andy drove dramatic yet relatable storylines that secured the family’s place among Corrie legends.

CS/Jim will be killed next month.

Over the years, Jim’s actions swung between fierce loyalty and shocking recklessness. He murdered ruthless drug dealer Jez Quigley to save Steve’s life, proving that he would go to extreme lengths for his son.

At another desperate point, he even staged an armed robbery in a bid to buy the Rovers Return. Consequently, Jim became one of the Street’s most unforgettable figures, loved and criticised in equal measure. Therefore, when news emerged that Jim would be killed off screen as part of Steve’s long term storyline, fans were stunned.

Coronation Street: One Final Chance Or Another Mistake?

Initially, the drama begins in a far more mundane but equally infuriating way. In the latest episode, Steve receives an unexpected call from Jim’s landlord demanding 1800 pounds in unpaid rent. The landlord explains that Jim listed Steve as a guarantor on the tenancy agreement.

Naturally, Steve insists he never agreed to such responsibility, and suspicion quickly grows that Jim forged his signature. As anger rises, Cassie Plummer steps in and attempts to steady him. She suggests they gather evidence to prove the forgery and protect Steve legally.

However, the situation grows more complicated when the landlord reveals an unsettling amount of knowledge about Steve’s personal details. Because of that, simply refusing to pay no longer seems like a safe option. Meanwhile, Steve decides to contact one of Jim’s former army mates in search of answers. Instead of reassurance, he receives devastating news. After confiding in his partner, Steve learns that Jim lies in hospital and doctors say he does not have long to live. Suddenly, the unpaid rent feels insignificant. The looming reality of losing his father overshadows everything else.

As the week continues, the emotional dilemma deepens. On one hand, Cassie urges Steve to visit Jim and settle unfinished business before it is too late. On the other hand, Tracy Barlow strongly disagrees and reminds Steve of every painful memory his father created. She argues that Jim caused nothing but chaos and questions whether Steve owes him anything at all. After all, during Jim’s last appearance in Steve’s life, he attempted to scam Liz out of money by pretending that his younger girlfriend Hannah was actually their daughter Katie.

CS/ Steve McDonald is disappointed

That cruel lie reopened deep wounds and left Steve furious. Later, in an effort to distract himself, Steve joins Ben and Tim Metcalfe at the County Event for a day out. For a while, the change of scenery helps. Eventually, he returns to the Rovers and leaves his phone on the bar.

He is unaware that his father tries to call him during his final hours. Will Steve lose his last opportunity to make peace? Or will fate grant him one final moment to face the man who caused him so much heartache? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
