Coronation Street favourite Andy Whyment has melted fans’ hearts once again, but this time the spotlight was not on Weatherfield. Instead, it was a football night in Liverpool that grabbed attention. The Kirk Sutherland actor enjoyed a special trip with his son, and what truly got fans talking was the former Manchester City star he publicly praised afterwards, even calling him a legend.

Andy’s connection to Coronation Street stretches back decades. Viewers recently saw him mark 25 years on the cobbles as Kirk Sutherland, but his journey with the ITV soap began much earlier. He first appeared in 1990 and again in 1997 under the name Mark.

Later, he showed up as Wayne, a man buying fireworks in The Kabin. It was not until 2000 that producers signed him as a regular in the role of Kirk, and from then on he became one of Weatherfield’s most recognisable faces.

While Andy spends much of his working life filming on the Trafford-based set near MediaCityUK in Salford Quays, football has always remained a major passion. He regularly attends matches at Old Trafford and proudly supports his beloved Manchester United.

Because of that loyalty, he made sure to travel when United headed to Liverpool to face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. However, what surprised many fans was who helped make the night possible.

After the match, Andy shared photos and videos on Instagram to document the evening. He told followers they had a fantastic night at The Hill Dickinson Stadium.

He thanked Jack Grealish for sorting the tickets and also expressed appreciation to Kevin and Karen Grealish for being great hosts. In the same post, he admitted he was really impressed with the stadium and added that Tom loved his first United away game.

Grealish quickly responded in the comments with a friendly message, writing, Topman mate. Andy replied with equal warmth and gratitude. He thanked him again and told him he is a legend, making it clear how much he appreciated the gesture. Fans also filled the comments with their reactions. One follower said it was wonderful to see and celebrated what a great win it was for United. Another simply congratulated Andy on the victory. Meanwhile, one cheeky supporter joked that he was backing the wrong club.

Although Andy spends his days bringing Kirk Sutherland to life on Coronation Street, football remains a central part of who he is. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
