Coronation Street viewers saw plenty of drama unfold in Weatherfield this week, but many couldn’t stop talking about one small, four-legged scene-stealer. While David Platt dealt with Max’s latest troubles, an unexpectedly sweet moment left fans both amused and confused and it didn’t take long for Jack P Shepherd to react.
David Tries to Guide Max Through a Complicated Situation
During Wednesday night’s episode, David briefly returned to the centre of the action as he tried to work out what was going on with Max’s new girlfriend, Bec. When David and Shona pressed Max for details, Max immediately shut down. He only later confided in David about the issues hanging over him, especially the fact that Bec used to date his former secure training unit mate.

David initially tried to calm Max down and told him he had turned his life around. But that reassurance didn’t last long. The moment David realised Bec was also Gav’s girlfriend, he warned Max that Gav was, in his words, a complete “lunatic,” and he insisted Max had made a serious error by getting involved with her. Despite the warning, Max chose to meet Bec again later for a cosy catch-up, showing that David’s concerns had gone straight over his head.
Coronation Street Fans Zoom In on David’s Adorable Dog Moment
But all that tension wasn’t what grabbed fans’ attention. In the middle of Max’s dilemma, viewers were suddenly distracted by the sight of David Platt cooing over the family dog, also named David. He fussed over the pooch in a baby voice until Max walked in, clearly entertained by the scene. When Coronation Street’s official Instagram account posted the clip with the caption that this is how every dog owner greets their pet, Jack P Shepherd jumped into the comments.

David joked that this was a case of “life imitating art,” which prompted Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, to respond with laughing emojis. Fans couldn’t get enough of the sweet moment. Several viewers praised “David the dog” as the real star of the scene. Others commented on how lovely the bond looked, while one fan pointed out that David the dog seemed much bigger than before, which sparked confusion among viewers.
That confusion led to a quick explanation. Viewers who followed the show closely clarified that the original dog who played David had sadly passed away, which is why a new canine actor stepped into the role. Jack had introduced the new dog back in November, and some fans had wondered what had happened to the original David. In response to those worried comments at the time, one viewer explained that the beloved dog had died in real life.
