The Corriedale crossover episode may be packed with high drama, shock twists, and fan service, but the real story behind it comes straight from the writer’s chair. As the special prepares to air tomorrow night, Corriedale writer Owen Lloyd-Fox has opened up about the one thing he wishes he could change and it’s not about the plot, the characters, or the risks involved, but the time he was given to tell the story properly.

The One Thing Owen Lloyd-Fox Wishes He’d Had More Of

Owen Lloyd-Fox has admitted that his biggest regret while writing the Corriedale crossover was being forced to condense such an ambitious story into a single hour. The self-contained episode, which brings together Coronation Street and Emmerdale, airs tomorrow night and will have lasting consequences for both soaps. The episode delivers a full spread of soap staples; long-buried secrets, potential deaths, and a life-altering stunt.

However, Lloyd-Fox revealed that fitting all of that into 60 minutes was the most challenging part of the entire process. The scale of the crossover, he explained, naturally demanded more breathing room. At a recent Corriedale press screening, Lloyd-Fox shared that he actively pushed for a longer format.

He said he had been “begging” ITV soap boss Iain MacLeod for a movie-length version, adding that a week-long event would have been even better to fully explore what happens when these worlds collide.

Why the Story Felt Too Big for One Episode

Lloyd-Fox explained that the crossover offered a rare creative opportunity. Bringing characters from two long-running shows into the same space opened up countless possibilities that simply couldn’t all fit into one hour.

He described the crossover as an exciting world to play in, where unexpected character dynamics could be explored in depth. He wanted time to let the characters feel each other out, clash, connect, and react naturally.

The writer admitted that while the episode still delivers impact, he would have loved to slow things down. In his view, some of the most compelling moments would have come from simpler scenes. Like the characters sitting in the pub, talking, sparring, forming alliances, or even starting affairs.

Lloyd-Fox also spoke about how being a lifelong soap fan made the experience both exciting and frustrating. One of the crossover’s biggest twists is its interactive element. There, viewers get to decide which character pairing appears on screen. Four possible pairings were written and filmed. And Lloyd-Fox said he loved working on those extra scenes because he approaches the show with a fan’s curiosity. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
