Evelyn Plummer Set To Leave- But She’ll Be Back
Dame Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) has decided to temporarily exit Cobbles. Over time, the character has built some great relationships. She reconnected with her abandoned grandson, Tyrone Dobbs, and shared good times with Roy Cropper. She even got close with her long-lost daughter, Cassie Plummer.
However, she is now moving on to a new role. Later this year, she’ll be taking the stage in Richmond Theatre’s annual pantomime, Beauty and the Beast. The venue shared on Instagram that Dame Maureen Lipman would be starring as Mrs Potty in this year’s ‘spellbinding’ pantomime.
Does that mean she’ll exit Corrie for the good? Well, absolutely not! A spokesperson stated, “Dame Maureen is taking a sabbatical towards the end of the year. We look forward to seeing her back on the cobbles in 2025.”The production is set to happen from December 7th to January 5th, so she’ll probably be away for several months.
The 78-year-old actress has also taken breaks in the past. Last year, she was in ‘Rose’ in London’s West End. Additionally, in an interview, the actress commented on Corrie’s current state. She noted how the show has moved to increasingly dramatic and dark storylines.
She observed that modern soaps tend to incorporate various social issues, including domestic abuse. She contrasted this with earlier times when the show allowed lighter, more conversational scenes. The star also mentioned her preference for moments when the women on the show would casually discuss political figures like Donald Trump, as it felt more authentic.
But Lipman’s move truly highlights her versatility and passion for new roles. We wish her well in her theatre performance. For more updates on Coronation Street, keep checking Soap Opera Daily! Let us see how her exit plot unfolds!
