Days of Our Lives Head Writer Ron Carlivati reveals that the episodes he wrote with his team won’t air until May 31. The writers for all four soap operas returned to work when the Writers Guild of America strike ended last September.
By the end of the year, three shows were airing new material from their regular wordsmiths. However, DOOL faced a unique challenge since it was filmed seven months in advance. Yep, the Peacock show has the longest tape-to-air gap among the soaps. So, Ron and his team returned to their job in October 2023, but their work hasn’t hit the screen yet.
Days of Our Lives: Ron Carlivati Promises Major Plot Twists!
Days of Our Lives scribe admitted the long wait was tough and that he was itching for his new material to air. During the strike, non-WGA writers who filled in opted to avoid major story changes, hoping for a quick resolution. But boy, were they wrong, as the strike lasted for a whopping 148 days. Subsequently, these interim writers had to advance ongoing plots and start new ones.
Carlivati revealed that the stories from January to May weren’t his, “I had nothing to do with those.” Furthermore, when the Emmy-award-winning writer returned, he aimed to get back to the show he understood and enjoyed. In no time, Ron resolved some ongoing plots and drew out others for a satisfying conclusion. Luckily, he even found multiple key story beats he had planned before the strike hadn’t aired yet.
This allowed the Days of Our Lives Head writer to script them as intended. For instance, with Nicole’s baby switch tale, he can write the part where Eric discovers he’s the father. It didn’t matter if he missed other parts of the story. Now, Carlivati teased big reveals involving Nicole, EJ, and Eric and it has something to do with baby Jude! In addition, Ron assured fans that a dramatic showdown between Nicole and Sloan would be scripted.
Viewers of the Peacock soap know that Sloan was earlier passing off Nicole’s dead baby as her own. Ron also sheds light on upcoming plots where Xander learns he is Victor’s son, and Alex discovers he is not. And brace yourself for a cast shakeup! Carlivati confirmed that the role of Gabi has been recast after Camila Banus departed last year.
Carlivati teased that “a new Gabi is getting out of jail to shake things up.” In November, Days of Our Lives will air its 15,000th episode, crafted by Carlivati. The milestone drop will focus on the passing of the beloved Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes. Ron highlighted that they worked hard to pay homage to Bill and celebrate both the character and the show’s milestone. Are you excited? Tell us in the comments.
