Christmas is nearly upon us – at least in EastEnders’ world. The BBC1 soap’s executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, has recently revealed that the team has already started working on the festive season storylines. With so many dramatic things happening around Walford, the EE boss has helped relax fans’ minds.
Long-time soap opera fans know that shows tend to drop their most explosive storylines during the festivals. This time around, the Mitchells will take centre stage in the upcoming months. Keep scrolling to get all the details!
Bombshell Christmas Storyline Revealed
The BBC soap made sure to give fans exactly what they needed last year during the festive season with The Six murder storyline. The executive producer has now teased what the audience can expect this year, suggesting the arrival of new Mitchells will play a major role during the holidays.

While speaking to the Mirror, Clenshaw revealed, “Christmas is well underway. In the story office, there is a board, and it all connects. I compare it to a tapestry board; everything has to fit together. We’ve got the new Mitchells coming in that will stir some trouble up. And as we head through into the autumn and the end of the year, we’ve got quite a few treats coming up.”
This totally sounds like a hint that the new Mitchells will play a big part at Christmas. Regular viewers know Stevie Mitchell’s estranged son Teddy recently arrived in Walford with his sons. The latest twist involves Stevie revealing a big death secret with Billy and Teddy about their mother. The possibility is that issues between the Mitchell brothers might increase, which could lead to trouble for everyone.
Furthermore, EastEnders boss also teased about a few characters that might return for the show’s 40th anniversary next year. He told The Sun, “As we head towards our 40th year, I think the nostalgic element means a lot.”
This makes us think that familiar faces will return to Walford with more twists and turns next year, and we cannot wait for it. So stay glued to Soap Opera Daily for more such EastEnders updates! Also, do you think choosing Mitchells for the festive storyline is a good idea? Tell us in the comments!
