Clair Opens Up About Her Dream Role After EastEnders
Clair played Bernie Taylor for eight long years. She first appeared in 2017 and left in July 2025. The Taylors went through many struggles in Albert Square. And after Clair’s exit, it was the end of the emotional chapter for the family.
Recently, Clair admitted in an interview that she wants to take a different type of role next time. She said, “I’d definitely like to play somebody different from Bernie. Maybe someone glam or someone I don’t know, rock, emo, chick. However, a totally different thing would be nice. Her supporters figured out that she might choose a new way of work, maybe starring in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, or Emmerdale.
Clair wants to transform herself into various shows. She has grown so much as an actor. When she played Bernie, she became a household name. However, people often saw her as a kindhearted, quiet and loyal girl. However, now she wants to surprise her fans by doing something totally new, a whole new personality with something glam or rebellious.
She further said, “I love soap, and now that I’ve got quite a few years of experience in it, I really appreciate how it all works.” Clair enjoys the pressure, unlike some who struggle with the fast pace. She said, “Some people come into soap and don’t take to it. They consider the speed to be too rapid or the continuous changing of lines to be a little overwhelming. However, for me, that is exactly what I am fond of. It is, in fact, the finest manner of work, I believe.”
Clair Reflects On Her Walford Journey And What’s Next
Clair wants to focus more on the character and not on the show’s name. “It’s less about which soap it is and more about the character,” she said. “Who they are, what they represent and the kind of storylines they’d have. That would matter more than the name because, honestly, all the soaps are great. There’s no way I could choose just one.”
When she exited EastEnders, fans were disheartened. Bernie was the only one of the Taylor family left in Walford. By the way, Keanu Taylor died very tragically during The Six event. And Bernie was left completely alone in Albert Square.
A source said, “Whenever a soap opera gets a new boss, they always want to do their own changes – it’s not a matter of personal liking. Bernie’s fate had been decided in a way for quite a while, so it wasn’t really a surprise to Clair. She was the only one left from the Taylors, and now it is the moment to move on from them and allow Clair to go and do the things she wants.”
