Eve Struggles With Her Past

The Panesar-Unwin marriage has seen a lot of cracks before. However, now it is something deeper. When adoption plans were put in front, Eve was not ready to have a child. She doubted she could be a good mum because of her past.

However, with time, she has a different thought process. Now, she wants to imagine a future with Suki where she feels safe. However, Avani’s pregnancy news came. And as Avani is Suki’s step-granddaughter, there were many emotions involved. Suki wanted to raise the baby all by herself, and she had asked Avani not to go for an abortion.

EE/Suki stands by Eve’s side.

However, she had not informed Eve about her plans. And so she felt left out. She felt that her feelings did not matter to Suki. That is when she decided to end their relationship. However, after some time, they both realised that their love is over anything and buried all their misunderstandings.

In the coming episodes, Eve’s mother, Norma, arrives in Walford. However, everything takes a turn after her arrival. Eve has had a criminal record before, and because of it, she will need her mum’s reference to move forward with adoption. Elsewhere, Norma just says one sentence and Eve spirals out of control. She asks her if she can ever be a good mum. And that’s when Suki starts having self-doubts, and she gives in. She informs Suki that she doesn’t want to move forward with the adoption. However, deep down, that is not what she ever wanted.

Eve’s Mother Brings Old Wounds Back In EastEnders

Heather Peace, who plays Eve, said that Norma’s attitude will leave a mark on her character. “I think Eve’s experience with Norma will make her a gentler, less judgmental parent,” she said. Norma has always compared Eve to her sister. She always found herself perfect in everything she did. And that constant comparison made life tough for Eve. It is something she is still trying to break.

Norma was never present for Eve. She always craved warmth; however, she never received it. That’s why Eve wants to be different. She wants to listen, not judge, and let her kids speak freely. And honestly, fans have seen her this side. The way she looks after Staycey’s kids and supports Avani and Nugget.

Heather also mentioned that Norma’s presence will affect even Suki. Heather said, “Norma is a bit of a slippery fish. She doesn’t really approve of Suki and Eve’s relationship. She toys with them, and when they finally talk about real things, it all blows up.” In the coming episode, Suki and Eve’s relationship might also be tested. Will Eve ever let go of her fear?
