EastEnders: Bernie Confesses, Then Lies Again
As Bernie makes her exit from Walford, she finally confesses the dreadful secret she has been harbouring for months. She admits to cousin Felix that her brother Keanu lost his life and that she had no suspicion his body was metres from her as she worked at the cafe.
Her dramatic admission whisks us back to Christmas 2023, when Linda Carter stabbed Keanu to death with a meat thermometer when he was assaulting Sharon.
It was a night of chaos. Denise hit Nish on the head with a bottle, Suki freaked, and the rest of the ‘Six’ assisted in covering everything up.
As many in Walford gradually came to discover the truth, Bernie was one of the final ones to be informed about it. The shock threw her into a tailspin, and it did not help that she was also deep into a money scam on the Panesars.
Her scam took a sudden turn when Vicki Fowler discovered all. Following her theft of Bernie’s laptop, she learnt the truth and blackmailed her with it.
Vicki wanted half of Bernie’s share in return for silence. Bernie agreed unwillingly, but she had one last move to make.
Bernie’s Desperate Escape Plan
Realising time was of the essence, Bernie encouraged Felix to start anew in Spain and prayed he had ditched Johnny Carter along with it. Then came her most brazen move yet.
Vicki blithely boasted to Kathy about her “windfall”, who immediately told her co-conspirator Suki. Suki tipped off Ravi Gulati, and the heat bore down quickly.
Bernie met Ravi and coldly blamed Vicki for the scam. She told him Vicki was the thief behind the Panesars. Felix was shocked. Ravi was apoplectic. And Bernie? She was risking her life.
