Her courage has inspired viewers, but what does the future hold for Eve and Suki? Could the couple face another shocking twist soon? Keep scrolling to learn more.
Eve Faces Life-Changing Challenges On-Screen In EastEnders
Eve Panesar has experienced some of the most dramatic moments in Walford. Last year, her character was the centre of all episodes. Eve married Suki in the BBC soap. And it was the first ever lesbian wedding. However, the tension was high because Suki’s ex-husband, Nish, had tried to poison Eve and then drag Suki over a balcony.
And so it was a tough time for Eve. She was pushed into situations that tested her patience. And also, her relationship with Suki was tense. However, despite all of this, she was committed to her relationship. Elsewhere, the Avani’s baby situation arose. And so she considered the possibilities of adoption. Heather Peace explains that Eve thought deeply about being a mother. She cannot ignore this chance to take on that new role.
It was a completely new chapter for her. And it is her moral compass that defines her character. There were times when Suki manipulated situations to her benefit. However, even then, Eve always stuck to her principles. She used to be honest and tell Suki that certain lines cannot be crossed. However, sometimes her love overshadows her judgment. She, at times, follows Suki’s words to make her feel better.
Heather Peace’s Personal Battle
In real life, Heather Peace faced an intense personal struggle while she was portraying Eve. When the couple were filming the wedding episodes, Heather was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. It was the same illness that her wife Ellie had faced a year earlier. Heather called this period one of the toughest ones. Also, she had a 12-centimetre lump that made her fear the worst. However, she did not stop filming. She knew the importance of completing the story on-screen.
Heather said, “At that time, I needed work more than work needed me.” And with her dedication, they were able to complete the filming. Elsewhere, their wedding made history in the soap. Even when the results from her scans were uncertain, she didn’t stop. She has not even once let her illness affect her professional life.
She also said that she found joy with her colleagues. And also called them “funny, solid and safe.” With help from her cast and crew, she gave strong performances and won the Inside Soap Award. Heather also teased her fans that there is more to come for Eve and Suki. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
