EastEnders fans, it is time to get hyped. Roxy Mitchell’s name is back in the mix. Rita Simons has just announced a massive development in the soap side of her career, and the web is abuzz. What she had to say rang true for fans, who didn’t wait long to turn their attention back to Walford. Scroll down to learn more.
EastEnders Fans Go Wild After Rita Simons Confirms Hollyoaks Exit
Rita Simons announced she is leaving Hollyoaks after two dramatic years. In addition to touching behind-the-scenes snaps, the actress, who played Joel, Abe, and Arlo’s mother, Marie Fielding, posted the news on Instagram.
“Since Marie Fielding entered Hollyoaks village, she’s ruined all of her boys’ lives,” she said. “Her work here is done!”
In her post, Rita also shared about her healing process. She wrote about overcoming a hysterectomy and how staying in Liverpool enabled her to regain strength. “This city has healed me more than I can ever explain,” she went on to say. “But now, London’s calling, baby!”
Although she’s going to depart in the autumn, she boasted that Marie still has some “carnage and laughs” left to deliver before departing.
EastEnders Fans Call for Roxy’s Return Following Rita’s Soap Shock Exit
Fans didn’t pull the punches. They swarmed instantly to the comment section, pleading for the iconic actress to resume her role as Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders.
“You’ve been amazing as Marie, but it’s time to bring Roxy back!” one user wrote. Another added, “You and Ronnie were iconic; we never saw a funeral!”
Some fans noticed that Rita used the same background music in her post that EastEnders used for Zoe Slater’s return. That tiny detail sparked even more theories.
Roxy was last spotted in 2017 when the Mitchell sisters drowned in tragic moments. But most devoted fans never bought that finale. “Just turn up in Albert Square and make them script you in,” one fan teased.
When Rita shuts the Hollyoaks book, the chanting of Walford supporters is louder than ever. For more EastEnders updates and spoilers, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
