EastEnders viewers know Samantha Womack as Ronnie Mitchell. But her life looks very different after departing the soap. Samantha is finding a slower, more sensible pace, from refusing pieces to developing confidence. Scroll down to learn how this experience has transformed her priorities.
EastEnders Star Samantha Womack Opens Up About Life After Cancer
The actress has revealed how the emotional change she underwent was insightful.
In 2022, Samantha was informed she had cancer. She went through treatment, including chemo and surgery. She is talking about how it completely transformed her today. “I am so much wiser,” Samantha shared with OK! Magazine.
Her short time with health problems made her rethink the type of work she wished to pursue and provided her with the courage to reject offers, even if it cost her something.
“After my year and a half of treatment, I began saying no to a great deal of things, and I did not have the bank account to keep up with that confidence,” she confessed. “But there was empowerment in that. I needed to get through it and get things sorted out that I had under the rug.”
Womack admits post-treatment acting was emotionally difficult
Coming back to the limelight was not a possibility for Samantha, though she was physically fine. She admitted that the fast-paced performance industry was too devastating after such emotional suffering.
“Coming back to work after my treatment was very difficult,” she said.
Samantha also added that she now tends to pick gentler roles and is much more careful about her workload. Looking back on life after EastEnders, she confessed that soaps are solid pay packets, but being self-employed is uncertain, particularly when you are not actually working for months at a time.
