Now that he is back from his stay with Zack Hudson to address his behavioural issues, something feels off with him. There are a number of fans who believe that Tommy’s mysterious friend is not a human. In fact, they have a weird theory about the character being an AI chatbot. According to the fans, the way the messages appear on the screen seems quite unnatural. They feel the responses come up instantly without any delay in reading or writing the messages.
One fan speculated, saying, “Tommy’s friend is an AI. The way the words appeared on the screen seemed too mechanical; there was no time for a read and reply. His friend is a beep boop.” While another speculated, “Yeah, after today’s episode, I have to agree with you. I picked up on that too and thought it was too automated.”
It seems like Tommy is way too emotionally invested in this “so-called friend” and often gets insecure when he can’t talk to them for a minute. As we all know, AI chat assistants are designed in a way that makes users feel comfortable—the problem is, sometimes, even more than any real-life relationship. If Tommy believes that he has found someone who truly understands him, he may not realize he’s being deceived.
As Tommy’s behaviour gets more and more weird, Kat and Alfie grow way too anxious. As we already know, Kat and Alfie have had similar experiences. And now, they are worried that the same thing is going to be repeated again. Though they try their best to reconnect with Tommy and make him feel settled, nothing seems to work.
