Kara Shares An Honest Update
Kara learned that she carried the BRCA1 gene. With this, she was more prone to develop serious health problems. Hence, she had to make a tough choice last year. Soon, she went ahead with the double mastectomy as she wanted to protect herself.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Kara spoke about how the surgery has shaped her life since then. She said, “It was daunting to open up.” Also, the actor had stayed silent about her feelings for a long time. She was unsure about sharing something so personal. The actress added, “I am really glad I have.”
It’s because she received a much bigger response from people around her than she was expecting. She called the reactions “overwhelming.” Also, Kara wants people to understand what the BRCA1 gene means. It’s because not everyone is aware of the risks.
Kara’s Journey In EastEnders
Kara played two stints on the BBC soap. Her television debut was a minor role. She played the school friend of Sonia Fowler. However, after a decade, she returned to play the regular Dawn Swann. The actress played this character for four years. In her final scenes, she and her long-term partner Harry Hobbs sailed away from Walford on a narrowboat. The two started a new life together.
But before her departure, Dawn had an affair with Phil Mitchell. Hence, her relationship with Garry was jeopardised. But the couple soon reconciled and eloped. Also, the producers decided not to renew Kara’s contract. Hence, she was written out of the show. In fact, now Kara herself said that she has no plans to return to the soap.
Kara’s most famous storyline on the show was the “Mad May” Kidnapping. Dawn was pregnant after she had an affair with May’s husband. However, May had become obsessed with taking the unborn baby. Later, Rob and May kidnapped a pregnant Dawn. They then handcuffed her to a bed in an abandoned house.
