EastEnders has recently bid farewell to many of the soap’s iconic characters, one of which is Sonia Fowler. Legendary character Sonia is all set to bid goodbye to Walford. In January, the soap announced that Natalie Cassidy is leaving after almost three decades. The actress has finally opened up about why she decided to leave after three decades. EastEnders’ Sonia Reveals Real Reason Behind Exit
The EastEnders actress took to social media and penned a heartfelt note for the cast, crew, and her last few days on the set. With the post, Cassidy confirmed that she has completed filming Sonia’s final scenes. In a recent interview with Bella magazine, she shared that ‘she left because she thought it was the right time to do so.’ “I was ready for a change after 32 years,” the actress further added.
Natalie also added that ‘she can’t do everything, though, no matter how much she adores EastEnders.’ Cassidy continued by saying, ‘EastEnders is almost like a factory with a huge cast and staff.’ She said, ‘If someone needs a month or two or three for something, they can’t cater for it as it will be unfair.’
The actress further said, “It has to be a clean break so I can focus on other projects and spend time with my family.” ‘She has not been able to spend time with family for the last few months, Cassidy added’.
Natalie’s Journey As Sonia
Natalie joined BBC’s daytime soap back in 1993. She took a break in 2007 and returned back to the soap in 2011. In 2014, she started playing Sonia full-time again on the soap. In her 32-year-long journey, viewers saw her being a part of so many sensitive issues and plots. One of which was the recent one, where she was trapped by her ex-fiance, Reiss. Recently during the 40th anniversary celebration, Sonia gave birth to evil Reiss’s child. Whereas her ex-husband Martin died tragically in between all.
Sonia has been through an emotional rollercoaster recently, and she is still trying to recover from it. Whereas her daughter will be soon joining her for Martin’s funeral. Natalie will be missed as Sonia Fowler. It will be hard to see her leave the soap after such a long journey, but we wish the best for the future!
