EastEnders faces sad news as Tony Caunter, who played Roy Evans, has passed away. Fans remember him as calm, steady and a big part of the Square for years. Roy Evans’ Journey On EastEnders

Tony joined EastEnders in 1994 as Roy Evans. He was the man who would later marry Pat Butcher, played by Pam St Clement. Roy very soon became a familiar face in Walford. He was known for his quiet charm and strong presence. Not just that, he was also a part of the soap’s most memorable storylines. And it included his love for Pat and the drama that came with it.

When he was on the soap, Caunter’s character experienced both highs and lows. However, in his final storyline, we saw Roy dying in a hospital after a stress-induced heart attack. It was because he found out that Pat was covering up an affair. When Caunter reflected on his journey, he said it was the happiest period of his career. He thought it was the right time to move on from the soap. He played that character for nearly a decade. Elsewhere, he also expressed gratitude for the experience and his wonderful colleagues. 

A Life On And Off Screen

Even outside soap, Tony Caunter had a long career in television. He played so many varied characters. He appeared in The Avengers, Casualty, The Sweeney, Minder and also in Queen’s Castle. His last acting credit was in Doctors, which was in 2008. After that, he retired. 

Caunter’s family shared the news of his death. They said he passed away peacefully just a week after his wife, Fran. His family praised his life on and off screen. They described him as “wonderful” and “hugely loved.” His family asks for privacy. And thanked the NHS and care staff for their support.

EastEnders also released a statement. They called him “warm, kind and humorous” and remembered the character of Roy fondly. Not this, they even highlighted Roy’s love for Pat and the moments that made him a fan favourite. It marks the end of a chapter for the fans who grew up with his character.
