Daniel Laurie, the son of EastEnders legend Leslie Grantham, is making his own mark on television. Playing Reggie Jackson in Call The Midwife, Daniel’s character has faced big changes, moving to Poplar and living with his uncle after a family tragedy. The actor is following in his father’s footsteps while creating a story all his own. Keep scrolling to learn more.

EastEnders: Daniel’s Career And Family Ties

Daniel Laurie first appeared as Reggie Jackson in 2017. The BBC soap introduced his character after his mother passed away. He moved to Poplar to stay with his uncle. Elsewhere, Leslie Grantham played Den Watts.

The soap killed the character just shy of its 4th anniversary in February 1989, but he made a shocking return in 2003, taking Walford by storm once more. However, despite the huge disadvantage of the British television industry, Leslie would outlive the memory.

Daniel’s part in the series Call The Midwife is one of the less conspicuous ways the legacy is being represented. There is a strong family connection and personal drama in both series, and Reggie Jackson’s path is very much a replica of the intensity and complexity that characterised his father’s legendary acting, proving that sometimes the talent is inherited.

Call The Midwife Returns

Call The Midwife is still a very successful series, with the upcoming Christmas Day special marking the return of the show later in the year. The feature film set in 1972 will further develop the series’ plot, cover new storylines, and keep the same characters. The prequel will also show our beloved midwives as children, offering a fresh perspective on the early days of Nonnatus House.

Heidi Thomas, the executive producer, characterised the prequel as portraying the remarkable Blitz time in East End London. “The bombs were dropped, there were still babies to be born, and the Sisters were on their way,” she said. The prequel will bring back familiar characters.

However, she added that they have received so much warmth and excitement. And it seems like the perfect time to show our nuns and midwives to the world.
