EastEnders’ Martin Fowler might have packed up and left Walford, but his memory just popped up at Glastonbury in a surprise. Former soap actor James Bye, who portrayed Martin for 11 years, marked an unexpected and tearful “bucket list” achievement. Scroll down to find out more.
EastEnders fans honour Martin with a touching tribute.
Martin’s on-screen death last month in the soap’s 40th anniversary episode shattered many fans’ hearts.
But even viewers far beyond Walford are still mourning Martin’s exit. Over the weekend at Glastonbury, a tent was pitched alongside one bearing a flag showing Martin’s face. The brazen message? “Gone but not forgotten.”
This unexpected tribute didn’t go unnoticed. The Martin Fowler flag appeared in several online videos before James Bye spotted it himself. Sharing the clip on Instagram, he wrote: “Always wanted to make an appearance at Glastonbury! Even if it is on a flag!”
He cheekily added Rod Stewart’s “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” to the post, calling it a “bucket list moment”.
Martin’s Impact Reaches Beyond Walford
Bye’s ex-colleague Diane Parish (Denise Fox) said, “Only right,” being supportive of the poignant gesture. Fans were also quick to follow suit. One joked that the flag should be on the big screens of the Pyramid Stage.
Another viewer showed that someone had made a similar flag for Sonia Fowler. “I can’t believe the owner of the flag didn’t track down Sonia, the flag owner; that would’ve been majestic,” the post said. For more EastEnders spoilers and news, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
