Martin Kemp, the ex-EastEnders actor, opened up about the long-term effects of his brain tumour surgery back in 1995. Because of the operation, he is still fighting against dyslexia, and it is difficult for him to read. Besides that, he lost the ability to walk and see. In what way did he revive his life after going through this horrible ordeal? Keep scrolling to learn more.
The Operation That Changed EastEnders Actor Martin’s Life
Martin is 64 now, and he spoke about his surgery with his campmates. He said that the tumour started to grow into the bone. And because of this, the removal of the tumour was urgently required. He said, “Mine is from an operation, taking away a brain tumour.” However, this entire procedure had an impact beyond physical recovery.
When this ordeal happened, Kemp was working in Canada on a show. In the movie, he was a professor. He mentioned that he figured there was something wrong when the make-up artist gave him a bald cap. It was then that he could see a bump on the back of his head very clearly. At that time, he saw a visible lump on the back of his head. He recalled, “I could hear the whole of the makeup wagon go quiet.”

He did not waste time, and two days later underwent surgery to remove it. He was given stereotactic radiation, which targets the tumour. It also lessens the damage to surrounding areas. It was a lucky break that the cancer was removed. The surgery left him with lasting side effects, including dyslexia that affected his reading. He admitted, “I’m dyslexic when I read all the ends of the words jumble around.”
His Recovery And Life After Surgery
Martin revealed that after the surgery, he had lost his basic abilities temporarily. He said, “For a while, I lost everything. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t see. I was a train wreck afterwards.” However, despite facing so much, he started to recover physically. He even returned to acting and built his career.

In simple words, the removal of the brain tumour was what kept him alive; however, dyslexia remains a problem. He hasn’t shared it publicly. Most celebrities like to keep such things a secret, but he didn’t. His fight for life and determination is the fact that people should really make a big deal of.
