EastEnders Icon Takes On A Surprising New Role!
EastEnders Legend Balvinder Sopal, who has brought the fiery and calculating Suki Panesar, is stepping away from the soapy drama of Albert Square. She’s trying her hand at something completely different! The actress has been announced as the latest guest editor on BBC Radio Kent. It looks like instead of soapy drama, she’s trading in Suki’s scheming for some serious storytelling on the airwaves!
Born in Chatham and raised in Gillingham, Sopal is returning to her roots in the most unexpected way. She took control of the mic on Friday’s edition of The Wake Up Call, hosted by Anna Cookson, giving listeners a fresh side of her personality. The popular soap star took to Instagram and shared her excitement for her guest role. She revealed that she will be taking calls related to acting from listeners.
Long-time fans of the BBC soap know that Suki has played an integral role in several major storylines during her stint. This includes her emotional and physical abuse by her ex-husband, Nish Panesar. She was also a part of the murderous Six narrative. The last notable event, however, was Suki and Eve’s wedding on New Year’s Day. Sopal also spoke about character recently. And said, ‘My main input at the start was that Suki retains her culture without being a stereotypical Asian.’
While speaking to Radio Times, she said, ‘I like the way Suki holds her handbag; it’s like an eyebrow raised when she delivers a line. That’s evolved; the handbag has become a character in itself!’ For more such updates on EastEnders, keep following Soap Opera Daily!
