Even Danny Dyer couldn’t save comedy Henpocalypse! EastEnders Icon Danny, best known for his role as Mick Carter on the BBC One soap, has faced a huge blow after his new show came to an abrupt end after only one series. The 47-year-old left Walford in 2022 and has moved into new ventures ever since his dramatic exit. However, his new series did not do well, and the BBC Two show has been axed. Read on to know more!
Former EastEnders Legend Danny Dyer’s latest project came to a shocking end where he was cast as a fictional version of himself. The show – which saw five women headed out on a hen-do, only for the celebrations to be interrupted by the end of the world, forcing the group to wait it all out in an isolated cottage in Wales. Danny made an astonishing cameo in the series of dream sequences, including one featuring him dressed up as a hunky knight.
As per reports, the first episode reached almost a million viewers, but that number came down across the run. Unfortunately, Danny’s new show didn’t get the recognition expected, prompting bosses to axe the programme after one season. A source at the BBC said, “It just didn’t get the audience figures to justify it returning.”

Dyer was particularly keen on the role, which deemed was a ‘fictionalised and heightened version of himself.’ Series creator Caroline Moran at the time revealed that she had written Danny into the script before he even knew the project existed. ‘I emailed him, begging, going, ‘You’re amazing, you’re a national treasure – what do you say?’ He was up for it,’ she said.
During a recent interaction with Metro, Danny talked about starting a production company to create more job opportunities for working-class actors. We absolutely love Danny’s initiative and wish him the best in all the other upcoming ventures! In the meantime, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more such updates on EastEnders!
