Kitty Castledine Opens Up About Her Character
EastEnders spoilers for this week reveal that Penny will have an argument with Ravi over Avani Nandra-Hart stealing a top from her stall. Later, she confides in Chelsea and persuades her to get a chance to work at Peggy’s. However, this is all a part of Penny’s devious plan, wherein she convinces Chelsea to have a drink while working, but the latter is caught by owner Phil Mitchell.
This leads to Chelsea’s demotion at the bar and Penny jumping at the opportunity and taking Chelsea’ job. All of this will definitely leave Chelsea heartbroken and create bad blood with the step-siblings.
Actress Kitty Castledine, speaking to Inside Soap about this storyline, said, “Penny basically ends up double-crossing Chelsea and persuades Phil to give her the manager position! I think at that moment, she lets her ego get the better of her. Penny does love her family, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, she forgets that. It does end up prompting some bad blood between Penny and Chelsea, which is a shame.”
Castlediena also discussed the issues she has with loved ones and reflects on how Penny struggles with maintaining good relationships with her family. She revealed, “I don’t think she’s used to having people around her who want to be with her and care for her. She has a coping mechanism where she tends to push people away, which is tricky when you’re in Walford, and everyone relies on friends and family.”

The BBC One soap actress also talked about how this behaviour of hers is affecting everyone around. It is genuinely a shame that Penny’s character is not getting along with anyone when she actually is fun to be around.
Elsewhere in the interview, Kitty talked about how she is grateful to be a part of ‘such an iconic family.’ She also praised her on-screen father, Scott Maslen, and mentioned that no one can ever have a boring day around Scott.
