EastEnders fans still miss seeing Sonia Fowler’s familiar face on screen, but life after Walford hasn’t been all smooth for Natalie Cassidy. The beloved actress, who said goodbye to the BBC soap in April, has faced a tough time as both her post-EastEnders projects have come to an unexpected end. It’s a shock for fans who hoped to see her shine beyond Albert Square. Keep scrolling to know more.
EastEnders’ Natalie’s Shows Struggle To Find Their Place
Not long after leaving Walford, Natalie had stepped into a fresh chapter with her Channel 4 show What’s The Big Deal. She tested popular products to see if they truly are worth hyping. It was her first step away from acting. It was fun, but it didn’t do well. And Natalie herself has admitted it.
She also shared her thoughts with her fans. She said, “I doubt it’ll return.” At the moment, there is no talk of it. But I loved it and it was a great experience for me to do.”
However, fans were not happy. They looked let down. They’d thought the show would do great because Natalie’s so genuine and likeable. However, the sad part is that things go well in that way. Another one of her shows ended early, too.
She’d worked with Joanna Page from Gavin & Stacey. It was for a BBC podcast titled “Off The Telly.” The two even chatted about everything TV-related. Basically, it was a perfect mix for two familiar faces loved by British audiences. Despite this, the show came to an abrupt stop. The BBC decided to move on to other, better things.
Fans Rally Behind The Star After Double Axing
Natalie was recently promoting her new book, Happy Days, at a literary festival in Somerset. And there she openly spoke about the BBC’s decision. She said that sometimes things don’t stick around for long in the media world. “With the BBC sometimes, what happens is, through no fault of their own, they love exploring new stuff and they do chop and change,” she said. Her fans liked her honesty. She further said,” If something isn’t massively, massively popular, then they will just get rid and try new material. That is kind of what the BBC is for.”
Her fans showered her with support. Many fans said that she deserves another chance. Others even pointed out how unpredictable TV can be. However, Natalie’s name is well-known to the audience. She had played Sonia Fowler for 32 long years.
And even though her latest projects didn’t do well, her future still feels open. It wouldn’t be surprising if he soon sees her back with something new. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
