Tamzin Outhwaite, who used to portray Mel Owen on the longest-running soap, recently opened up to Metro.co.uk about her sudden departure from the show. Her character was a part of numerous interesting narratives including the swiftest soap marriage ever to Ian Beale. On their wedding day, Mel learned that Ian had lied to her about Lucy’s health, and she was quick to jump the gun and leave him at the altar.
As for her death storyline, Mel was killed off in 2019 after being hit by a lorry in the middle of a row with Walford businesswoman Sharon Watts. This news came as a storm hit the show’s fans and viewers; they never wanted Mel to die. And now Tamzin has opened up about her exit and shared how her views about the departure have changed since 2019.

The Abigail actress said, ‘At the time, I was also quite devastated that she was killed off, because you mourn a character like that, who’s taken up a big section of your life, ‘But now, I just wouldn’t be taking so many risks [if that hadn’t happened] and it makes me feel comfortable that it’s not possible to go back.’
