EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite has opened up. This time, it is not about work or Walford. It is about her family. Something deeply personal. Her eldest child, Flo, is transgender. Known to fans as Melanie Owen, Tamzin spoke about it on the Parenting Hell podcast. She admitted it took time to find the right words, to even say it out loud. Now she speaks with love and pride. Not Just A Label: He’s So Much More
Flo came out when he was around 10 or 11 years old. That is what Tamzin shared. It was not simple. One day, she said she had two daughters. Now, she says she has a son and a daughter. And that shift, hard at first, does not define Flo for her. She looks at him and sees his spirit and his soul.
“He is hilarious. Clever, too,” Tamzin said, almost glowing. “Watching him grow into this human, this brilliant, kind human. It is a relief, pure joy. We have been through dark bits, yes. But he is thriving now.”
EastEnders Icon Talks Motherhood And Healing
Tamzin has two children, Flo and 12-year-old Marnie, with actor Tom Ellis. Their marriage ended back in 2014.
Her name still pulls fans back to EastEnders. She first showed up as Melanie Owen in 1998. Mel was fire. She ditched Ian Beale on the wedding day. Got tangled in messy love triangles with Phil Mitchell and Steve Owen. People loved her for it.
But Mel’s story ended brutally. Her son Hunter was killed after that shocking Queen Vic hostage drama. Not long after, Mel walked into traffic, and her life ended in 2019. Tamzin has moved away from Walford, but fans continue to show their full support. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, follow Soap Opera Daily.
