Following over two decades out of Walford, Vicki Fowler has returned unexpectedly to Albert Square in EastEnders. She made her return at Martin Fowler‘s funeral, where she arrived to stand in for her mourning mum, Michelle. Although a great deal has altered in the Square since she last left, it wasn’t long before old favorites such as Sharon Watts caught up with Vicki.
Sharon’s questioning of Spencer resulted in Vicki’s admission: she asserted to have cut it out with him over his cheating and subsequently moved on to a new love interest, Ross Marshall. However, there was more to come.
Alfie Moon, Spencer’s big brother, was the first to scoff at the thought that Spencer would cheat. With a phone call to his brother, Alfie was told the truth—Vicki had cheated, and with none other than Spencer’s best friend, Ross. So just who is Spencer Moon—and what is the true tale of his many years with Vicki?
EastEnders: Spencer and Vicki- From Teenage Sweethearts to Bitterness and Betrayal
Spencer Moon, Alfie’s younger brother, first appeared in EastEnders 2002. After the tragic deaths of both parents, his grandmother, Nana Moon, raised him. They moved to Walford when Alfie inherited The Queen Vic. From the start, Spencer is depicted as well-intentioned but frequently gets into trouble.
He briefly dates Kelly Taylor, but their relationship ends because of a misunderstanding over Alfie’s paying her for a date. When he gets involved in shady business, such as selling stolen items for Mickey Miller, he frequently gets his older brother in trouble.
Spencer‘s life on the Square reached its dramatic conclusion in 2004. Back then, he was caught attempting to retrieve drugs dumped by his cousin, Danny Moon, at Pauline Fowler‘s home. Vicki and Spencer first became a pair in 2003 when she came over from Florida.
The two were close fast enough, but Pauline frowned upon their relationship to the extent of kicking Spencer out after a harmless coffee date. Their relationship took a serious turn after a one-night stand resulted in Vicki becoming pregnant. She decided not to keep the baby, despite Sharon offering her £10,000 to raise the child as her own. Spencer, who felt ready for fatherhood, was crushed by Vicki’s decision to have an abortion.
In spite of this tragic episode, the two reconciled later when their car broke down on the Scottish moors. Although their romance never regained its former glory, it was discovered years later that they had re-met in Australia. Now, with Vicki home in Walford—and Ross-Vicki’s relationship revealed to be a betrayal—the wounds between her and Spencer are perhaps not quite healed after all.
