‘I Might Take A Year Out At Some Point In The Future’
Emma Atkins, who has played Charity Dingle in Emmerdale for almost 25 years, recently confirmed a break from the soap. She expressed her desire to step away for a year to do ‘other things.’ The actress stated, “I might take a year out at some point in the future – do some travelling, do other jobs – but at the moment I’m here to stay.”
She expressed her contentment with the current writing for her character and her enjoyment in playing the role, indicating no immediate desire to pursue other opportunities. Reflecting on a previous break from the show in the 2000s, she described it as a ‘good period of time to learn more about acting.’
Emma added that when she was invited back to Emmerdale, she felt she could further enhance her character. Additionally, the soap star discussed the marital challenges faced by characters Cain and Moira Dingle. She is confident that the couple will endure.
She noted that their contrasting personalities create a balanced ‘yin-yang’ dynamic. However, when it comes to Charity and Cain, she predicted ‘too much friction’ due to their similar traits. She added, “Whereas Moira has that sort of morally upstanding nature.”
Meanwhile, the ITV star expressed the desire to work with actors Jeff Hordley and Natalie Robb, highlighting Robb’s talent. She said, “In fact, my mum said to me the other day, ‘Isn’t she a brilliant actress?” Well, we can’t agree more with her. For more Emmerdale and its stars updates, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily!
