Marlon and Rhona have survived illness, trauma and family chaos in Emmerdale, but none of that prepared them for the man who was supposed to be dead. Graham Foster’s return hasn’t just shocked the village, it has shaken the foundations of their marriage, and now the cracks are starting to show.
Graham’s Return Threatens Everything They Rebuilt
During the Corriedale crossover, viewers discovered Graham never actually died in 2020. After helping save April from Ray and Celia, he claimed he had come back to rebuild his relationship with Joe, presenting himself as someone seeking closure. But the truth soon surfaced. Graham admitted to Rhona that he still loved her.

When Marlon heard about the confession, he confronted Graham in anger and ordered him to stay away. Rhona reassured her husband that Graham was firmly in the past and insisted their relationship was stronger than ever.
Yet behind that confidence lies uncertainty. The history between Rhona and Graham didn’t disappear, and now it has resurfaced at the worst possible time for the Dingles.
Emmerdale: There’s A Fragility That Wasn’t There Before
Actor Mark Charnock warned the couple’s bond has already changed. He explained he couldn’t reveal too much, but Graham’s return has introduced emotional instability into a marriage that had only just regained balance.
He said the situation has “introduced a fragility that wasn’t there before,” even after the difficult year that actually brought Marlon and Rhona closer together. According to him, Graham’s presence has created fracture lines for both characters for completely different reasons.

Charnock added that the unresolved feelings between Rhona and Graham could damage everything, and it has the potential to become “very destructive” for Marlon. The twist stunned the cast as much as the audience. Charnock recalled his first reaction was disbelief, “He’s coming back? He’s alive?!”, before he later appreciated the explanation behind the fake death storyline.
He also revealed that he and Zoe Henry immediately knew the past between their characters would resurface and affect the marriage. They even discussed it early because they anticipated it would cause serious problems, and now Marlon may be the one left heartbroken as those old emotions refuse to stay buried.
