Emmerdale spoilers hint at a tough New Year for Jacob. He will face a shocking first day of placement at the hospital’s A&E department. The youngster is excited about his placement, which will allow him to gain the hands-on experience he has worked so hard for – hours of revisions, exams, and so much more – which has led to this opportunity. But he has no idea that what’s waiting for him might test his resilience. What will he do when the challenge finally hits him hard?
Jacob Is Abuzz With Excitement
Jacob can’t contain his excitement now that he is finally close to fulfilling his dreams. He has worked really hard for it and is proud of himself as he meets the doctor, Dr. Todd, who is overseeing his placement. Actor Joe-Warren Plant describes it as follows: ‘She is strict, and she is also understanding’ – maybe Jacob will see her dark side, which only adds to his panic. Joe also reveals that Jacob soon gets overwhelmed seeing lives are in line, which could lead to dangerous decisions.
Later, it gets even worse. We will see Jacob almost turn pale once he sees the serious injuries, accidents, and life-threatening conditions first-hand for the first time. He has never seen them so close up, so it’s only common for him to react like this. But will he give up on his career after such a horrible experience, or will he return stronger? Joe-Warren Plant adds, “I think it’s only later in the day when the apprehensions start to show, and he does start to feel a little overwhelmed.”
Joe on Jacob’s Reaction
Joe comments on the D-day of Jacob. He says, “When I first went up to the meeting with the producer Sophie, she told me there was going to be an hour-long episode coming up dedicated to Jacob’s first day of placement on A&E. I remember being hit with all these emotions. Knowing how many people have this high-pressure job, I felt the pressure to really knuckle down with it and get it right. Tackling this storyline scared me a bit at first. But to know, but they trusted me to tell it. It means a lot, and I do feel very honoured.”
Sophie Roper, the Emmerdale producer, also said, “When Jacob first embarked on his aspirations of having a medical degree, we knew at some point we wanted to show a day in his life. In this episode, we step away from our usual environs of the village and head to the hospital. This episode takes place entirely on our purpose-built hospital set. Accident and Emergency is a place many of our characters end up in, but seldom by choice.”
As the episode unfolds, Jacob will encounter some challenging situations that also affect some of our Emmerdale villagers, pushing Jacob to his limits both professionally and personally.
