‘Especially seeing as he’s just come back from Scotland that morning, and Zak’s kind of told him to go and, you know, it’ll be fine. I think that’s why it’s so immediate for Cain and so shocking – it’s like seeing someone in the morning, isn’t it? And then in the afternoon, they’re gone, and he’s trying to process it.’
Cain and Sam (James Hooton) reminisce about Zak, and soon, the villagers gather to see them off as they head to Scotland to bring Zak home. ‘The funeral takes place very soon after,’ Jeff added. ‘The funeral has got Dingles written all over it. If you could say shotgun wedding or shotgun funeral, you’d kind of get a picture of what it’s like… There’s really poignant moments in it.’
Tina’s Schemes and Manipulations
On the day of the funeral, the Dingles are left speechless when Tina Dingle makes a dramatic appearance at the graveside. After nearly 30 years, the iconic character is back, but she’s not how fans remember her. Jacqueline Pirie, who originally played Tina in the 90s, turned down the chance to return, paving the way for Samantha Power, known for her role in Brassic, to step into Tina’s shoes.
