What’s Next For Wendy & Ella?
Paula Lane (Ella) and Susan Cookson (Wendy) have spoken out about Ella’s shocking attack on Wendy. In the most recent episode, Ella’s birthday turned into her worst day as she got very anxious when she noticed Mandy had posted photos of her birthday makeover online.
Then, just as her friends were trying to cheer her up for the party, Gary, the brother of the woman Ella killed years ago, showed up. Ella hurriedly ran away, but she tripped and hurt herself while Gary chased her. Luckily, Wendy Posner stepped in just in time to save Ella.
Later, in the waiting room, Ella suddenly snapped and attacked Wendy. When the receptionist realised what she had done, she was horrified. Although Manpreet advised Ella to explain to the police that it was all a misunderstanding, PC Swirling soon arrived to arrest her.
In the last scene, she expressed her gratitude and insisted that the situation was for the best before sharing a final kiss with Liam and urging him to find happiness. Lane said about the incident, “Ella attacked Wendy because she felt there was no way out.”
She mentioned that Wendy’s kind words about people caring for her hit Ella hard, as Ella struggled to believe anyone could truly care for her. Lane also noted that Ella is frustrated because everyone in this new place knows her real identity. Ella feels she cannot hide from her past; oddly enough, prison is her safe place.
Can Ella Overcome Her Past?
Meanwhile, Cookson discussed Wendy’s response to the unprovoked attack, explaining that Wendy was utterly shocked since she had genuinely been trying to help Ella after witnessing what she had just gone through. The soap star highlighted that Wendy had been sympathetic toward Ella.
She added, “Wendy was not in any way prepared for what was about to happen, probably thinking quite the opposite and would have been believing she was calming Ella down and supporting her.” Susan hinted that Wendy might initially keep her distance from Ella.
However, with time, her character could eventually become a supportive figure for Ella. Wendy genuinely wants to offer Ella another chance and understand the person she has become after paying her debt to society. However, their relationship may face difficulties, given Ella’s past actions toward Wendy.
Ella star suggested that the root of the attack stemmed from Ella’s difficulty in accepting that she could not alter her troubled past. According to her, her alter ego faces ongoing challenges when transitioning back into society. The actress expressed, “I hope for her she can move on, but the trauma she has experienced will forever be a lasting scar.”
She emphasised that Ella would need the support of the right people to help her achieve a ‘happy future.’ Let us see what happens once she gets out of prison. For more Emmerdale spoilers, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily! What do you think? Can Ella ever find peace? Share your thoughts below!
